You may want to use shortcuts with your standard keyboard instead of using our built-in one. Here are some useful shortcuts for you.

 

How to insert Pi

To insert the Pi symbol: On your computer keyboard, hold down the 'Alt' key and press the letter 'p'

'Alt' + 'p' = π

If you are using a Mac, the shortcut requires you to hold down 'Option' and press the letter 'p'

'Option' + 'p' = π

 

When using the HegartyMaths keyboard, choose the symbol directly

How to insert the multiply symbol

To insert the multiply symbol: On your computer keyboard, hold down the 'Shift' key and press the number '8'

'Shift' + '8' = *

The multiply symbol and other operators are the orange keys on the HegartyMaths keyboard

 

How to insert an index or power

To insert an index, power or exponent: On your computer keyboard, hold down the 'Shift' key and press the number '6' to insert a caret. Follow this with the value of the power

'Shift' + '6' = ^

e.g. y^2 gives:

 

How to insert a letter or capital letter

Use your computer keyboard or choose a letter from the HegartyMaths keyboard. Click the "CAPS" button to get a capital letter on the HegartyMaths keyboard. In small screen mode, choose "ABC" to view the letters

 

How to insert a fraction

To type in a fraction, simply type the numerator, then press the / key on your keyboard, and then type in the denominator.

e.g. 1/2 gives a half:

Note, you can also input a mixed number by typing the fraction first and then using the arrow keys to move to the space before the fraction and typing the whole number part of this.
